Thursday 18 May, 2017

Brussels – Thursday, 18th May, 2017: Annick Boyen, CEO of Weber Shandwick Benelux, will leave the firm during the summer months after 22 years of service, to join Unilever’s European board as VP of Sustainable Business Development and Communications Europe based in Rotterdam and head of the External Affairs office in Brussels.

Boyen will be succeeded by Mónica Vicente Cristina and Nora Lawton in Brussels, whilst Hafida Abahai will take charge of the agency’s Dutch operations run out of The Hague. Boyen joined Shandwick Brussels in 1995 as a trainee, and rose to Managing Director leading the Dutch operations in 2002. In 2014 she was appointed CEO of the Benelux region.

UK and EMEA CEO, Colin Byrne, said: “We are grateful to Annick for her leadership in building Weber Shandwick across the Benelux region. It’s been a pleasure working with Annick for more than two decades. We’ll greatly miss her, her vision and her partnership, but one of the things we are proud of, as one of the fastest growing and innovating PR firms, is our positioning as the most gender equal PR firm and for promoting great talent from within.

In this spirit, I am delighted to appoint Mónica and Nora as joint Managing Directors in Brussels, with Hafida taking over as Managing Director of our Netherlands office.”

A Portuguese native, Vicente Cristina has worked in Brussels for over 15 years. She has been with the firm for almost 4 years, leading its Corporate and Public Affairs practice. Lawton has also been with the agency for almost 4 years, running pan-European campaigns for its Consumer and Brand PR practice hubbed in Brussels. Abahai joined Weber Shandwick in 2014 to lead the Consumer Marketing offer in The Netherlands. In 2016 she was promoted to Chief Client Officer.
