Weber Shandwick, one of the world’s leading global communications and marketing services firms, is pleased to announce the appointment of Oliver Drewes as Senior Executive Director of Public Affairs in its Brussels operation. Drewes brings to the team a wealth of expertise, including fifteen years of senior in-house experience in the European Commission both as a spokesperson and as a member of several cabinets. He joins a deep bench of global public affairs experts at Weber Shandwick who help clients navigate government policy and the broader political climate in key regions around the world.
Prior to joining Weber Shandwick, Drewes served as Associate Director at Policy Impact Partners, where he did important work supporting governments, innovators, regulators and business leaders on strategic regulatory challenges, particularly related to cross-sector connectivity and digital policy. Earlier in his career, Drewes had a fifteen-year tenure at the European Commission in a number of diverse and challenging roles in fields such as transport, health, financial services, agriculture and environmental issues. His knowledge in these areas was honed in positions such as spokesman for maritime affairs, and for internal market and services.
Aside from his vital work as a European Commission spokesperson, Drewes was also part of the commission team charged with responding to the 2008 financial crisis and preparing a regulatory framework for the future.
“We are delighted that Oliver has joined the team in Brussels. His deep insight into EU politics and processes are held in the highest esteem. Oliver’s experience supporting governments and institutions will be a huge asset to the team and will further bolster our abilities to solve problems for our clients, particularly in today’s challenging environment,” said Mónica Vicente Cristina, Managing Director of Weber Shandwick Brussels.
“I am very proud to be part of a leading global team of communicators and policy experts, among the best in foreseeing and understanding risks and challenges, while translating them into options and solutions for businesses and decision makers for their relevant markets,” Drewes said.
Chief Operating Officer of Weber Shandwick EMEA Jonas Palmqvist also commented on the appointment:
“Oliver brings with him specialist knowledge from the heart of EU institutions to the already well established Public Affairs team in Brussels and around the world. His track record shows clear expertise and experience mitigating crises, a skill which will prove invaluable in our current climate.”
