From 1 July to 31 December 2018, Austria will hold the six-month Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This will be the country’s third time doing so since its accession to the EU, following its terms in 1998 and 2006. Following the Bulgarian presidency, Austria will prioritise security and the fight against illegal migration, stability in the European neighbourhood – perspective of the Western Balkans/Southeastern Europe, and securing prosperity and competitiveness through digitalisation. In this spirit, Austria has chosen the motto “A Europe that protects” for its Presidency, reflecting the need to restore citizens’ confidence in the EU and securing the EU from within and without.
We hope our guide to the Austrian Presidency proves to be helpful in guiding your advocacy for the next six months.
